Danny ordered a farewell lei for best friend's mother who passed away after a valiant fight against cancer. This style lei is named Kiane (Hawaiian for Jeanne) in her honor.
I chose to make the lei out of pink and yellow carnations and cymbidium orchids for several reasons. First, the colors are meaningful. Pink is symbolic of a mother's undying love and yellow usually means good friend. They are also the two most popular colors associated with cancer awareness. Second, carnations are the official flower of Mother's Day. And finally, carnation is derived from the latin "carnis" which means flesh and is the root of the word incarnation.
The lei beautifully decorated Jeanne's urn. She meant so much to so many and will be greatly missed. Mahalo Danny.
